ABSTRACT

In a context where different protocols for recommended practices in clinical voice assessment exist, while there are gaps in the literature regarding the evidence base supporting assessment procedures and measures, clinicians from regions where a strong community holding expertise in clinical and scientific voice practices lack can struggle to confidently develop their voice assessment practices. In an effort to improve voice assessment practices and strengthen professional identity among speech-language pathologists in Quebec, Canada, a community of practice (CoP) was established, with the aim of promoting knowledge sharing, implementing change in clinical practice, and improving professional identity. Thirty-nine participants took part in the CoP activities conducted over a four-month period, including virtual meetings and in-person workshops. Participants had a high rate of attendance (> 74% participation rate in virtual meetings), and were highly satisfied with their participation and intended to remain involved after the project's end. Statistically significant changes in voice assessment practices were observed post-CoP, regarding probability of performing assessments (p < .001), and perceived importance of assessment for evaluative purposes (p <.001), as well as improvements in assessment specific confidence, specifically for procedure of auditory-perceptual assessment (p < .001) and purpose of aerodynamic assessment (p = .05). Moreover, there was an increase in professional identity post-CoP (p < .001) and participants felt they made significant learnings. The present study highlighted the need to involve SLPs in future research to identify assessments that are relevant to the specific evaluative objectives of SLPs working with voice, and suggests CoPs are an efficient tool for that purpose.

ABSTRACT

The objective was to investigate the production of knowledge about the Professional Identity of Physical Education (PE) teachers. An integrative review was carried out in the databases between 2015 and 2021, where we obtained twenty articles: eleven national and nine international. We verified that the professional identity is built in temporality and in the spaces of life to better understand the multiple possible identities found in the professional trajectory. Although experiences prior to initial training have been considered, it was possible to observe that in initial training, professional identity is established especially with the deepening of experiences in internships. In addition, the consolidation of this identity process remains in the professional field, individually and collectively, from entry into the career and continuing education, however, it is an unfinished and constantly changing process.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Based on Claude Dubar's sociology of professional identities, we support the hypothesis that forensic psychologists' professional identity depends on strategies of compatibilization between belonging their reference group and the institutional attributions. There were 95 participants, all from the current staff of the Court of Justice of the state of São Paulo, who answered an online form. The data were subjected to content analysis. The results indicate a professional identity with noted salience on psychological assessment and interdisciplinarity, and the identity crises regarding verification practices. Such findings highlight the importance of practitioners taking part on the construction of their own tasks.(AU)

ABSTRACT

【Objective:】 To explore the practice experience of narrative medicine among postgraduates majoring in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and its impact on their professional identity. 【Methods:】 A total of 56 first-year master’s and doctoral degree students majoring in TCM at a university were selected through purposive sampling for a 16-hour narrative medicine course training and 4 weeks of clinical practice in narrative medicine. They were asked to complete an open-ended writing assignment on their practical experience after this clinical practice. Subsequently, the topic analysis method in qualitative research was used to analyze their writing contents. 【Results:】 After learning narrative medicine, the students’ practical experience in clinical practice included 3 major themes and 9 sub-themes: wide application range (all diagnosis and treatment stages, multiple departments, and disease types), integration of multiple communication skills and diagnosis and treatment methods (communication skills, psychological techniques, reflection, and TCM humanistic diagnosis and treatment methods), and increasing professional identity (achieving mutual healing, building the harmonious doctor-patient relationship, and enhancing confidence in TCM). The themes were further integrated to form the relationship between the narrative medical practice cycle and professional identity, and presented in the form of charts. 【Conclusion:】 By exploring the narrative medical practice experience among TCM postgraduates, it was found that through the use of multiple methods and techniques in the entire diagnosis and treatment stage and multi-disciplinary diseases, it is possible to harmonize the doctor-patient relationship, achieve mutual healing, and enhance confidence in TCM. These internalized recognition and sense of achievement contributes to improving professional identity, which may provide new ideas for the development of professional identity for medical students in China and the exploration of the localization of narrative medical practice.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Residency is still considered the gold standard for quality medical training, and acquiring a professional identity as a specialist is one of its central elements. Residents obtain this identity through both the educational environment and direct interaction with peers and supervisors. However, modifications in health care and educational routines during the recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have significantly impaired these channels. This study is part of a qualitative research project to analyze professional identity formation in a medical residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at a public hospital in southern Brazil. The authors conducted 28 semi-structured interviews with medical residents and preceptors, as well as a focus group with the residents, which was recorded, transcribed, and analyzed in an effort to construct major analytical categories. Restricted movement and physical contact have forced the use of alternative means of interpersonal interaction, such as communication through social media or instant messaging applications. This has also affected educational activities, such as morning rounds, lectures, and seminars. These changes represent a significant impact, especially in Brazil, where physical proximity is an important cultural feature, even in the work and school environments. We speculate that this new type of virtual interaction will also affect the formation of professional identity among obstetrician-gynecologists. These findings suggest that medical residency programs should be attentive to changes in resident training to ensure that the specialist profile and the expected skills, which are consolidated over many years, are not lost.

The contents included four aspects: basic information, preliminary questionnaire of professional identity, mentoring function scale and professional competency. SPSS 26.0 was used for t test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Pearson correlation analysis to analyze the status of professional identity and its correlation with professional competency and mentoring function. Results:Both professional and academic clinical medicine postgraduates had high scores of the overall level and four factors, and there was no statistical significance in the scores between the two groups ( P >0.05). There were significant differences in the overall level, behavior and appropriateness of professional identity among different grades of professional postgraduates ( P<0.05). Correlation study showed that the professional identity was significantly positively correlated with the total score of professional competency and mentoring function ( P<0.001). Further interview survey showed that the role of supervisor and employment prospects also played an important role in the elevation of professional identity. Conclusion:The overall degree of professional identity of academic and professional postgraduates is good and closely related to professional competency and mentoring function and for professional postgraduates, the overall level of professional identity of senior students is better. It is suggested that besides focusing on their professional competency, it is necessary to further optimize the employment policy of academic postgraduates and the training of tutors for professional postgraduates.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the relationship between professional identification and learning engagement, as well as the role of academic self-efficacy as a mediating factor between ideological and political education majors. Methods:Totally 441 students majoring in ideological and political education were collected from four local universities by cluster sampling method, and professional identity scale, learning engagement scale and academic self-efficacy scale were used for investigation. SPSS 26.0 was used for descriptive analysis and correlation analysis, and AMOS 24.0 was used to conduct structural equation modeling and Bootstrap mediating effect test. Results:The scores of professional identity, academic self-efficacy and learning engagement were (3.854±0.515), (3.496±0.426) and (4.900±0.899). Professional identity was positively correlated with learning engagement ( r=0.658, P<0.01), professional identity was positively correlated with academic self-efficacy ( r=0.735, P<0.01), academic self-efficacy was positively correlated with learning engagement ( r=0.756, P<0.01). Academic self-efficacy played partial mediating role in the relationship between professional identity and learning engagement(effect value=0.266, 95% CI=0.178-0.404), accounted for 63.64% of the total effect. Conclusion:Professional identity can directly affect college students' learning engagement, and also indirectly affect learning engagement through academic self-efficacy.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To explore the effect of resilience in the relationship between workplace bullying (WPB) and professional identity among nursing interns. Methods A total of 292 nursing interns from six grade A hospitals were selected as the research subjects using convenience sampling method. The WPB,professional identity, resilience, perceived stress and coping styles were investigated by the Negative Acts Questionnaire Revised, the Professional Identity Questionnaire for nurse students, the Chinese version of 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale and the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. Results The scores of WPB and perceived stress were negatively correlated with those of professional identity, resilience, and positive coping styles(PCS)[Spearman correlation coefficients(rS )were −0.354,−0.316,−0.388,−0.488,−0.636 and −0.478,all P<0.01]. There was a negative correlation between negative coping styles(NCS)and professional identity(rS =−0.117,P=0.046). The scores of resilience and professional identity were positively correlated with that of PCS(rS were 0.539 and 0.482,both P<0.01). There was a positive correlation between resilience and professional identity (rS =0.567,P<0.01). The scores of WPB and perceived stress were positively correlated with that of NCS(rS were 0.350 and 0.281,both P<0.01). There was a positive correlation between WPB and perceived stress(rS =0.419,P<0.01). The scores of resilience and PCS were not correlated with that of NCS(both P>0.05). Resilience played a mediating role between WPB and professional identity. The interaction between WPB and NCS could predict the professional identity and resilience of nursing interns(standardized regression coefficient were 0.31 and 0.17,both P<0.01). Conclusion WPB can directly or indirectly affect nursing interns’professional identity through resilience, and NCS plays a moderating role on the direct effect of WPB and professional identity, and the relationship between WPB and resilience.

ABSTRACT

Professional socialization is a complex process that leads to the professional identity. While several studies have focused on the professional identity of physicians and nurses, few studies analyzed this aspect among dieticians. Furthermore, those studies did not consider the influence of sociocultural norms. The aim of this study was to analyze the construction of the professional identity of Brazilian, French and Spanish dieticians. A qualitative methodology based on semi-structured interviews was set up. The construction of the professional identity of Brazilian, French and Spanish dieticians is characterized by the incorporation of skills, knowledge and roles. This process was marked by transformations, mainly related to food and body. Dieticians from the three nationalities shared similar professional values grounded in a medical-nutritional rationale. However, their professional identity also resulted from a continuous process of interaction with patients, peers and the socio-cultural environment. (AU)

(AU)

ABSTRACT

Domestic work has been undergoing changes, especially in developing countries. In Brazil, such changes have been driven by the Constitutional Amendment no. 72, from 2013. This research discusses the professional identity and labor relations of Brazilian domestic workers, based on ten in-depth interviews conducted with five full-time and five part-time domestic workers, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. After being recorded and transcribed, the interviews underwent core meaning analysis, which identified two core meanings: entry into the profession entry and professional identity; and employee-employer relationship ambiguity. The interviews revealed an early entry in the labor market and a tenuous professional identity, marked by dubious relations between employers and employees and doubts regarding the recognition and valuation by employers. Results are discussed based on specialized literature and the current context

ABSTRACT

Abstract This article presents an analysis of the work of social workers at the Federal Institute of Education of Santa Catarina, in relation to the process of building professional identity. From the end of the 2000s onwards, there was an expansion in the number of social workers working in educational policy, with the constitution of the National Student Assistance Program and the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education, mainly required for the implementation of student assistance actions. The demands, requisitions and working conditions are elements that support the construction of the ethical-political project of the profession, and reflecting on such aspects makes it possible to understand reality beyond its immediate appearance. This study, based on historical-dialectical materialism, was developed based on bibliographic and documental research and on field research, using the questionnaire to collect data. The results point out limits and possibilities to the work of social workers at the Institute, demonstrating that the construction of professional identity occurs in the midst of the contradiction between the determinations of salaried work, to which social workers are subject, and the social direction that is sought to be imprinted on professional practice, with a view to materializing the professional project.
